these black Hyposcada illinissa are quite scarce, they liva at low elevations, in the forest, from some place in Colombia ("New Granada"), down to Iquitos and the Rio Negro river.
these specimens, from Yasuni, should logically belong to ssp napoensis, but :
- this ssp was described (2001) from a single female from Yasuni, with the addition of a pair from Iquitos, 1000 km away,
- and it seems there is no visible difference between this ssp and ssp napirida (1941), which would also be poorly known, and the type of which comes from Brasil (Rio Negro)
- and, above all, the HW of these specimens looks just like the HW of ssp sinilia, better known and described from Colombia in 1865, and not so much like the HW of napoensis.
